If you’re new to massage, you might be wondering what to expect from a massage session. Here’s a brief guide on what happens during a massage session.
Arrival and consultation
When you arrive for your massage session, you’ll be asked to fill out a consultation form. This form will ask about your medical history, any areas of pain or tension, and what you hope to achieve from the massage. Your massage therapist will then discuss the form with you to ensure that the massage is tailored to your needs.
Getting ready
Once the consultation is complete, your massage therapist will leave the room to allow you to get ready. You’ll be asked to undress to your comfort level and lie on the massage table, covering yourself with a towel.
The massage
During the massage, your massage therapist will use various techniques to help you relax and relieve tension. They’ll use massage oil or lotion to help their hands glide over your skin. If at any point you feel uncomfortable or the pressure is too much, be sure to let your massage therapist know.
After the massage
Once the massage is complete, your massage therapist will leave the room to allow you to get dressed. They’ll then provide you with some aftercare advice, such as drinking plenty of water and taking it easy for the rest of the day.
